Return to Radiance: My Journey of Nervous System Healing [ep. 93]
I’m doing something a little different today. Usually, I wait until I’ve figured everything out before I share my journey with you. You know how it is – we content creators like to have all the answers tied up in a neat little bow before we open up about what we’re going through.
But not today.
Today, I want to walk this path with you. I want you right there beside me as I navigate what I’m calling my “Return to Radiance” journey; a deeply personal exploration of nervous system regulation, somatic healing, and learning to exist fully in this beautiful, complex human body of mine.
If I’m being completely honest, this journey can feel lonely sometimes. As someone who lives freely as an expat, constantly traveling and creating, I’ve realized I crave deeper connection with my community. And this particular path I’m on? It’s one that so many of us are walking, especially in these intense, polarized times we’re living in.
We’re existing in a world that’s simultaneously full of incredible potential and devastating pain. We’re riding this rollercoaster of human experience – the euphoria and the heartbreak, the joy and the frustration – all while trying to figure out how to hold it all in these magical, fragile bodies we’ve been given.
This whole journey began last year while I was deep in the final stages of writing my debut book, Magnetic. I had this overwhelming intuition that I needed to include a chapter on the nervous system, even though my editor was… let’s say, less than thrilled about adding more content to an already bloated manuscript.
But here’s what I knew: you can’t out-mindset a dysregulated nervous system. You can have all the dreams in the world, but if your body doesn’t feel safe holding them, if you’re constantly in fight-or-flight mode, those dreams will slip through your fingers.
That realization changed everything for me.
The name comes from something an incredible Indian teacher said to me during my yoga teacher training in Bali years ago. She told me that yoga helps you “return to your radiance”, to the true essence of living fully in a human body. Those words gave me goosebumps then, and they still do now.
For someone like me, who has spent much of my life dissociated from my body due to trauma and PTSD, the concept of radiance – of actually wanting to be fully present in my physical form – has been both terrifying and magnetic.
In this episode, I share the four elements that are guiding my Return to Radiance journey:
Relationships – Coming back to community, co-regulation, and authentic human connection
Regulation – Deep diving into nervous system work, breathwork, and somatic practices
Releasing – Learning to let go of what no longer serves (people, situations, old patterns)
Rewriting – Questioning everything and giving myself permission to change and evolve
I won’t lie to you, this journey has been intense. When you tell the universe you’re ready to heal and grow, it will send you every opportunity to learn those lessons. Things have been falling apart in my life, and I’ve had to face patterns and programs I didn’t even know I was carrying.
But here’s what I’m discovering: there’s so much freedom on the other side of this work. Even while I’m still in the thick of it, I’m feeling more alive, more connected, more radiant than I have in years.
